10 Things to Do in Lanzarote at Christmas

If you are one of the lucky people who have discovered just how wonderful it is to have Christmas in Lanzarote then we think you will enjoy our guide on the top ten things to do in Lanzarote at Christmas.  If you have never had the pleasure of being in Lanzarote at this wonderful time of year, then why not make plans now to see what all the buzz is about.  Escape the miserable weather and head for some Christmas fun in the sun!

Our first tip for a happy holiday season here in Lanzarote would be to make sure you check out one or more of the many ‘model village’ nativity scenes that you will find around the island. Built by the locals to celebrate this special time of year you will discover these large elaborate scenes in many of the resort areas such as Marina Rubicon, the Deiland Centre, Playa Honda, as well as many of the bigger hotels.

With over 80 beaches in Lanzarote, you will be spoilt for choice about which beach to enjoy on Christmas day. Can you imagine exchanging a Christmas day spent in the kitchen, for one spent on the beach? Lanzarote usually enjoys Christmas temperatures of around 20 degrees Celsius – perfect for all your favourite beach activities.

If you worry about all the Christmas excess putting your plans for fitness on hold for the holiday season, then why not hire a bicycle to pedal away the pounds. Bike hire in Lanzarote is a great way to not only increase your fitness, but to see more of this amazing island.

Along the lines of exploring the island, why not hire a car to see even more. Treat yourself to a sexy sports car, cabriolet, 4×4, or even just a plain hatchback and head out into Lanzarote. From North to South, you have 60 km of great roads to travel, and from East to West, 25 km of sights to see and enjoy.

Water park time! Why not head to one of the fantastic water parks in Lanzarote. There are two to choose from in Playa Blanca, the Paradise Island resort and Aqualava at Playa Flamingo. Over at Costa Teguise there is Aquapark –  another, great place for plenty of water fun.  There are so many rides, slides and pools to enjoy at these parks – we highly recommend a visit.

If your Christmas lunch is one tradition that you would not want to miss, then why not book in for a Christmas meal at one of the hotels or restaurants that make Lanzarote so special? All the fun of the eating – none of the hassle of making or clearing up.

Alternatively why not do it your own way, and have a barbeque Christmas lunch in the luxury of your own private villa. Eating what you want, when you want and cooked just the way you like it, a Christmas BBQ sounds like a great new tradition to start!

Whilst you are enjoying a Christmas break in Lanzarote, why not make the most of the temperature and facilities and head for a scuba diving excursion. Enjoy the exhilaration of heading underwater to explore a whole new area that most people never get to see. The watersports in Lanzarote are definitely one of our top tips for Christmas in Lanzarote.

If you need a Christmas shopping fix whilst you are here, then we think you will love the Lanzarote markets. Two that we would recommend would be the Sunday market at Teguise, and the Marina Rubicon markets on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Enjoy browsing, buying those souvenirs to take back home, or just treating yourself to something wonderful.

But here is our favourite top tip for a wonderful way to wrap up an incredible Christmas break in Lanzarote. Take a bottle of wine and a picnic basket and head to the Western coastline at around 5.30pm – perhaps at El Golfo, or the western side of Playa Blanca. Experience a sensational sunset Lanzarote style – this fantastic way to end the day will be one of the things you’ll remember forever as your Christmas holiday in Lanzarote comes to an end.
