Christmas in Lanzarote

Christmas in Lanzarote is of course, very different from at home. Quite apart from the sunshine and warmth, the festival focuses around the Spanish and Roman Catholic way of celebrating the birth of Christ.  Christmas Day is a religious holiday, then most local people go back to work on 26th December, and have 6th January as a holiday instead - more details of this below.

Nativity Scenes

All over Lanzarote at this time of year, you will see Nativity scenes being created in public areas, such as the Deiland Shopping Centre (Playa Honda), Marina Rubicon (Playa Blanca), some large hotel foyers, and main towns such as Yaiza and Teguise.  Residents take a lot of trouble putting these nativity displays together, and they are well worth seeing.

El Dia de Los Reyes

The big Christmas event in Lanzarote, apart from Christmas Day of course, is the Day of the Kings, also known as the The Three Kings, on 6th January. Don't miss the spectacular processions in Arrecife, Yaiza, Playa Blanca, and other venues.

Christmas and New Year are very popular times for Lanzarote holidays, and villas in Lanzarote are especially popular at this time.  It is advisable to gat organised early in the year for the following Christmas, as many of the best villas get quickly booked up.

The same will be true for many of the hotels in Lanzarote.
