Teguise,
the former capital of Lanzarote is not only nice to visit on
sundays. On those days the quiet town changes to a big market,
and the fields around Teguise are croweded with cars. You wont
find the beauty of this town during the market.
If you would like to visit the Castillo Guanapay which was build
to protect the habitants to the pirates, to visit the church
or just to feel the special spirit of Teguise, you should come
back during the week. |

After the death
of César Manrique, a well-known artist, architect and
sculptor, his house has been opened to the puiblic.
The Fundacion César Manrique
still tries to influence the happenings on the island in his
spirit, unfortunately not always with success.
The house of the artist gives you an imagination of his kind
of living and besides that, you can visit a collection of arts
and pictures.

El Golfo
is a small fishing-village behind Timanfaya. The green lake
is directly infront of a strange wall of rocks, next to the
black beach of El Golfo. Because of the current it is dangerous
to swim here.
On your way to El Golfo, between the salt-wors and the lagoon,
there is Los Hervideros, a system of caves on the steep coast
with impressioning water movements. For some people the most
beautiful place of this area.
in the fishing-village El Golfo you can eat fresh fish while
watching a wonderful sunset. |

If you would like to stay a whole day at
the beach and you have a car, you should go to the beaches
of Papagayo.
There is only an off-road from Playa Blanca to those beaches
and some rent-a-cars do not allow to drive there. Maybe it
is a good idea to rent a small cross-coutry vehicle or to
book a trip an a boat which is offered in Playa Blanca.
